After gaining her degree from Glasgow University, Air Vice-Marshal Chris Elliot joined the Royal Air Force in 1985 as an Air Traffic Control Officer. She has served at many Royal Air Force airfields, including Brize Norton, Valley, Leeming and Marham. Following promotion to Squadron Leader and an appointment as the Senior Air Traffic Control Officer at Linton-on-Ouse, she moved to the Ministry of Defence where she carried out staff officer and programming roles in both Operational Requirements and the Capability Management Organisation. She attended the Number 4 Advanced Command and Staff Course in 2000 and following promotion to Wing Commander, she was then appointed as the Personal Staff Officer to the Commander-in-Chief Personnel and Training Command/Air Member for Personnel based at HQ Personnel and Training Command at Royal Air Force Innsworth until Sep 2003. After completion of her appointment as the Officer Commanding Operations Wing at Royal Air Force Northolt, she returned to Shrivenham in 2006 as a member of the Advanced Command and Staff Course Directing Staff. On promotion to Group Captain in 2007, she moved to AIR Command where she fulfilled the roles of Group Captain Airspace Control Capability and the Safety Regulator in the Defence Airspace and Air Traffic Management organisation. She then attended the Royal College of Defence Studies in 2010 prior to her appointment as Officer Commanding Royal Air Force Halton. A posting as Group Captain Programmes in Finance, Programmes and Plans at AIR Command followed in December 2012 and she then joined No 22 (Trg) Gp in the rank of Air Commodore as the Director of Ground Training/Senior Air Staff Officer. She is the Chairman of the Royal Air Force Sports Charity/Federation and is currently the Chief of Staff Personnel/Air Secretary.
