Matti Saarelainen, Ph.D. began his career in Finnish Security Intelligence Service (SUPO) in the 1980s, working in various fields within the organization ever since. During 1998-2004, he worked as the Director of the Finnish Directorate of Immigration and during 2005-2008, as the Situation Awareness Coordinator at the Prime Minister´s Office. At present, he is the Head of the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats.
