Former Chief of Staff, Air Command 3SDL Head of ISR & Space
Air Cdre Portlock has an extensive E-3 Sentry flying pedigree and has commanded at
Squadron, Station and Force level, with operational experience in Iraq,
Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan where he commanded Camp Bastion in 2012.
He has capability planning and procurement experience within the
Ministry of Defence’s Equipment Capability area and as a Project Team
Leader in the Defence Equipment & Support organisation.
was recently the UK’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance
(ISR) Force Commander at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire, responsible for
the generation, operation and sustainment of the Sentry, Sentinel,
Rivet Joint, Shadow and Reaper fleets throughout an exceptionally busy
operational period. Lastly, as the Air Commodore Chief of Staff at
Headquarters Air Command, he was responsible to the Air Force Board for
optimal, efficient and progressive output and change.
graduate of the Higher Command and Staff Course, Jeff is delighted to
take on a new role within 3SDL as both the Team Leader for ISR and as a
Principal Consultant. This wide remit includes the responsibility of
growing 3SDL’s ever-expanding ISR output, with an absolute focus on best
serving the Front Line.
Jeff completed the full suite selective military training up to and including Higher Command and Staff College; he has a Master’s Degree in International Defence Studies and is currently mid-way through the Institute of Directors programme. He elected to leave the RAF in early 2017, joining 3SDL Ltd – a UK Defence SME – where he heads their ISR & Space Division.
